What is Cherokee County PROJECT ZERO?

We are a dynamic dual approach to solving the pet over-population problem in Cherokee County.

Part One: A no-kill limited entry rescue network of foster homes, finding and placing abandoned or privately released pets in new homes. We select healthy and friendly pets left at shelters or pets whose owners can no longer keep them. Pets receive appropriate veterinary care, including spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations, and spend a minimum of one week in foster care for observation before adoption to carefully screened applicants.

Part Two: A low-cost spay/neuter program which will reduce the numbers of unwanted puppy and kitten litters by providing an affordable way for low income individuals and families to fix their currently owned pets.

Both parts of PROJECT ZERO will help lower the numbers of unwanted pets brought to the shelters and put to sleep there. Cherokee County PROJECT ZERO is committed to creating improvements on both ends of the pet overpopulation problem in our community. By having both prevention and rescue components, we hope to help find homes for more of the pets left at shelters.

In cooperation with all others, our goal is to bring the number of unwanted pets in Cherokee County to ZERO... That's our Project!

(Project Zero is applying for nonprofit corporate status, and will pursue 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status immediately. Presently, all contributions are non tax-deductible, but 100% of any money donated is applied to either spay/neuter fees, vaccinations, or other related care for rescue to adoption pets in foster homes. A complete accounting of all income and expenditures is available upon request.)
